I. What is Cellulose Acetate Butyrate（CAB-400）

CAB‑400 Cellulose Acetate Butyrate is a modified cellulose ester grade designed as a nitrocellulose (NC) replacement. It is a high‑viscosity grade supplied as a free‑flowing white powder.

Application/Uses：Printing Inks: Gravure inks, flexographic inks, screen‑printing inks, metal printing inks

Coatings: Textile coatings, paper coatings, general plastic paints, wood topcoats, marking paints Leather finishing agents, hand‑crafted art coatings

II. Key Performance Characteristics

High viscosity & high film‑forming strength

It is a high‑molecular‑weight grade. The formed film delivers high hardness and good toughness, with better mechanical strength than low‑viscosity CAB. It can partially or fully replace nitrocellulose (NC), avoiding the fire and explosion hazards of nitrocellulose and enabling safer storage and transportation.

Superior anti‑yellowing and weather resistance over nitrocellulose

It features good UV stability, and resists yellowing, gloss loss and chalking under outdoor conditions. The coating shows outstanding oil and chemical resistance, compensating for the poor weather‑resistance drawback of nitrocellulose.

Good solubility and compatibility

Soluble in ketone and ester solvents. It has excellent compatibility with acrylic, nitrocellulose and alkyd resins to produce clear solutions, suitable for formulation blending in ink and coating systems.

Adjustable application performance

Accelerates solvent evaporation and improves surface‑drying speed; improves pigment wetting and printing definition; enhances anti‑blocking and abrasion resistance of coatings, as well as anti‑sagging performance.

Free from hazardous‑goods regulation for nitrocellulose

It is not a flammable and explosive hazardous substance. It is safe for warehousing, transportation and production feeding, and simplifies enterprise safety assessment management.
